Fruits Value Addition Factory
Official Opening of the Factory The Factory Building Mango ready for harvesting
Mango production has increased dramatically in the Kerio Valley in recent years. Suitable soils and climatic conditions combine to produce fruit of exceptional quality and flavour. Mango has become a major cash crop for the area's small scale farmers. There are also opportunities to increase the value of the crop to primary producers by either drying the fruit or producing mango juice. It is difficult for individual farmers to undertake value addition in this way so AIC Cheptebo Centre has established a mango drying facility where local farmers can have their crop processed. The factory was built with the assistance of the Government of Japan and opened in February 2020.

The factory receives fresh mango from the Kerio valley and Baringo regions. Over 350 farmers, registered with Kerio Fruits and Horticultural Marketing Cooperative, are contracted to supply the factory's requirements. Other mango producers are encouraged to become members of the Cooperative and market their produce in this way.
During the harvesting season the factory has the capacity to produce up to 10 tonnes of dried mango per month.
